Gold Rush

Apple released its long-awaiting iPhone 6 a couple of weeks back.  Not only is the new iPhone 6 larger in screen size (shocking!!!), the latest model continues to push forth the stunning color of gold.  If that isn’t an indication of the color’s popularity, both Samsung and HTC also released gold versions of their latest smart phones:  Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC M8.
If you are into the gold craze, but are unwilling to give up half your house to join the rush or simply want to extend your gold extension in other parts of your life, we have a cheaper alternative for you.  By the way, did we mention this alternative is grooming related?

The lovely folks over at Unilever released a gold jewel of their own.  After Uncle Sam graciously takes his share, this shimmering, glistening beauty comes out to just under $4.50.  Now this gold rush sounds more reasonable!  Gentlemen, we give you: “AXE GOLD temptation”.

Like most of its current shower gels, the GOLD temptation comes in a tall 16 FL. OZ sleek container.  The body of the container is all black (strangely), with the nozzle coating in shinny metallic silver (strangely).  As you work around the sides of the body, you’ll notice that it’s concaved inwards with grooved cuts for that added grip.  The most distinctive aspect of the product is the strip of glossy gold label at the front.  Unlike its brothers and sisters that were sitting alongside the shelf, this AXE GOLD temptation is wrapped in a decorated shrink-wrap with “BONUS” written in all caps.  Turning the package around you’ll find a 1.69 FL. OZ travel-size mini-me glued to its back.  Talk about getting more bang for your gold!  It’s like buying an iPad and getting the iPad Mini for FREE!!!!

Once you have the body upside-down, a gentle squeeze will cause a cascade of liquid gold to slide down into your palm.  The gel is translucent with the color of intense gold.  Like most AXE products, right after you open the package, you’re hit with an air of powerful aroma.  In the case of GOLD temptation, the scent resembles that of citrus, zest, lavender and a very light hint of chocolate.  As you rub the gel against your body, the friction results in bubbles and intensifies the fragrance.  Unlike the AXE Apollo scent featured in our AXE-Men articles (1 & 2), which gives off feeling of intense motion, the GOLD temptation feels more settle and mature.  This one is definitely made for the more grown up.

On a scale of 1 to 5, we’d give it a 3.5.  What made this product unique in our opinion also made it average.  After having used a variety of AXE fragrances (i.e. deodorant, shower gel, shampoo), we’ve begun to feel that they all smell very similar.  The strength of the scent tends to stay with you for a good period of time, and that can be very disruptive to some people.  Nevertheless, after the initial usage we were quite satisfied with the result.  The shower gel does a good job of getting rid of dirt and all other residue from the body while leaving you with that signature average AXE scent.

If you are feeling tempted and want to try some liquid gold, we recommend checking out the AXE GOLD temptation.  At just $4.50, gold has never smelled so good.
