Although the real life grooming crisis at hand isn’t as life-threatening as the scenario in the movie, AXE has rightly identified a pressing issue of malevolent odor that demands the undivided attention of a special task force....  Like the heroes in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the AXE team has stepped up to the plate to answer the call of grooming duty in the Present and Future Present.

OK, Groomerines, Santa Claus came in May this year!  Our friends over at AXE granted us an early Christmas wish with a cool new joint venture.  ‘Tis the season for AXE to join forces with Twentieth Century Fox to co-brand the summer blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past!

Yes gentlemen, you heard us correctly: there is another X-Men film out, which seems to be doing the franchise some justice as well as dominating the box office.  The following is a little about the movie and a lot about the “uncanny” co-branding endeavor.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on events chronicled in a couple of issues of The Uncanny X-Men from the early 80’s.  The story is set in the future -- of 2013! – and involves an epic battle for the survival of humanity.  (Of course!)

They do so by assembling a special team of 3 units (Body Spray, Deodorant and Shower Gel) from their top 4 fragrance categories: Phoenix, Dark Temptation, Apollo and Anarchy.  The X-Men: Days of Future Past Exclusive Gift Set can be found at select Walmart and Walgreens locations.  Now, let’s un-box this baby.

The gift set comes in an action-packed box similar in size to an iPad box.  Right away, our eyes were drawn to the center of this paper treasure chest; the  ALL IN CAP phrase that calls out: “EXCLUSIVE X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST POSTER INSIDE!” nerd-gasm!!!!

If you’ve ever been told “Beauty is only skin deep”, we can confirm that this adage applies to the promotional package.  After we got past the excitement about the box, the interior packaging itself struck us as more subdued.  What you get when you open the box are the 3 heroes: Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant (2.7 oz), Body Spray (4 oz) and Shower Gel (473 ml).  The three [Apollo] products do not bear any X-Men movie exclusive labels or trademarks; they are the exact same individual products sold in stores.  This part was a bit disappointing.

So, while the poster is cool, there’s not much else that’s unique about this gift set.  And how do the 4 fragrances relate to the X-Men movie?  The best way to answer that question is to restate the phrase found on the AXE Apollo section of the exclusive AXE X-Men website -- “Leave a Man.  Come Back a Hero!”

Be sure to check back for a full review of the products in the AXE X-Men Days of Future Past Exclusive Gift Set – Apollo!
