I’ve tried various things to soothe my muscles for the next combat, including hot bubble baths, icing, heat patches, etc. But during one of my recent charity cycling rides, I stumbled onto a company called Biofreeze – Cold Therapy Pain Relief – a topical pain reliever. “Biofreeze was first introduced to the world by a medical professional who was searching for a way to help his grandmother manage her arthritis pain. The formula he created consisted of the active ingredient menthol with a synergistic blend of inactive ingredients. The resulting formula offered quick, effective pain relief without the use of prescription drugs.”
The company offers a few product options and sizes from 4 oz. Gel to 3 oz. Roll-on to 3 oz. Spray. As written on the pamphlet supplied with the product, I couldn’t wait to try it so that I can “get active… and stay active”. The mild, but dominating scent is minty menthol and it was refreshing and cold to the touch. The cool sensation gave an icing affect. The gel went on the aching parts of the body with easy and offered temporary (psychological) relief from the pain. This product contained some interesting ingredients that could have been on the menu of an afternoon high tea at the Ritz: aloe leaf, arnica flower, arctium lappa root, calendula, green tea, lemon balm… But unlike many of your favorite teas, the product is colorless (and greaseless), which meant that it won’t stain your clothes. Additionally, the menthol scent slowly dissipated as the gel dried and penetrated the muscles and joints.
Now I don’t know if this product was life changing for me, but it definitely offered a quick and temporary soothing relief. It felt great to the touch and re-energizing. But perhaps the products biggest secret was that it was discreet with it’s mild scent and colorless application… which meant that I could go on pretending and brag to my buddies about how great my body felt after last week’s grueling ride. And they should all quit whining about their muscle aches and pains on their over the hill bodies. I’m certainly ready for more!!!... temporarily, thanks to my new secret weapon. LOL.
