When it comes to TVs, technology has come a long way since the “box tube” CRT sets. But believe it or not, there is still some debate on the popular AV forums regarding the picture quality of today’s TV vs. the old school CRT; most AV enthusiasts still hail at the CRT picture quality, good luck trying to mount that 200 pounder above the fire place… it’s a no no! |
We got the opportunity to get our hands on the LG 55EA8800. It won the Best TV Design of 2014. And believe it when we tell you, this TV is AWESOME. It comes packed with a stainless steel frame, which doubles as a picture frame that hides an impressive 100W, 2.2 channel sound system design by Harman & Kardon. The TV is 55 inches big and offers a 1080p resolution and is thinner than an iPhone 5. By the way, this TV is only sold with a wall mount option, but a separate base stand is available from LG at an additional cost. Honestly, the TV paired with the frame makes it look like a work of art; you WANT to hang it on the wall and show it off as art! It comes with all of the necessary mounting hardware including a pullout, swivel and tilt TV wall mount that is hands down the best mount we’ve seen to date. The craftsmanship is second to none. Of course, this functional art does not come cheap. In fact it will set you back over $4 grand, which is hard to stomach for a 55 inch TV these days. But if you are searching for the best of the best (at the moment at least – probably good for another month – ;), it’s money well spent. The value of art is subjective anyway. When it first arrived at CES back in 2013, the TV sold for over $8K… see what a deal!
It comes packed with a ton of smart features, including 3D and has almost all of the trendiest apps ready to use for your viewing pleasure. When the TV is turned off, it can be used as a display to showcase photos. And let us tell you, you’ve never seen your pictures on a TV screen until you see your pictures on this LG OLED screen! The picture detail and quality is out of this world. What’s also cool about this TV is that some high end galleries use this set as fillers to showcase art among other things so you know we’re not puffing.
If you have a nice modern minimalistic (bachelor) pad and looking for a fancy feature packed, a “picture” perfect piece of art (I mean TV), check out the LG 55EA8800 OLED. It will be love at first sight.
