Next, sideburns are buzzed; eyebrows man-scaped as needed; and neck trimmed. Word to the wise: many salons allow regular clients to come in for free updates to the sideburns, eyebrows and neck. We recommend a quick visit at the 3-week stage, which will keep you clean-clean until your next full cut, 6-8 weeks out.
After the cutting is done, you’ll be ushered back to the back-lit sink to recline for another shampoo, conditioning and rinse. And here we arrive at the very best part of your day. Maybe your month. Just maybe your year. As you wait for the shampoo and conditioning session to conclude, you luxuriate with a hot towel draped over your face as your stylist massages your hands with lavender lotion. If they didn’t have you at “Hello,” they sure have you now….
Back to the chair, where your stylist dries your hair and applies gel, mousse or grooming clay before releasing you back into the wild. Although, consider a quick trip to the bathroom first, where you may find hand lotion and/or little tubes of chakra-licious oils to rub on your wrists.
Now, let’s talk time and money – the two things that always seem to be in shorter supply than we might wish. Obviously, a sumptuous salon dalliance will take longer than a barber shop visit; plan on being there over an hour. As for cost, high-end salons tend to charge according to the seniority level and/or popularity of your stylist. The magical mystery tour described in the past two posts cost $55, for the services of a younger stylist. The range for a similar suite of services may range from $40-$100 for gents, depending on the salon and stylist. And don’t forget to leave a manly tip! This could set you back an additional $20-$50… but remember that heavenly hand massage?!
