To say that we've discovered the best shaving cream in the world would be a powerful statement - or would it? With so many shaving cream products on the market for guys these days, it’s more difficult than ever to find a new product that is a complete game changer. And with a very limited selection at your local drug store, you’ll often find that the cash you dropped on your go-to brands’ competitor could have been better spent at your local bar cheering for your favorite World Cup team, shouting Goooooooooooal!. Well, guess what? You can stop worrying and keep all of those hard earned dollars you've been stashing in an attempt to test new shaving products because we've found one of the best men’s shaving products in the world. Yep, that’s right, and we are totally aware of the bold statement that we’re making, and it’s OK if you think we are full of it. But since we get to review these products, we can write whatever we want; however, you will find that this product lives up to our claims, which is why we write them, so booyah!
With that said, I’d like for all of you to say goodbye to the traditional shaving foams and gels, and say hello to my little friend - Beard Lube - manufactured by Jack Black. No, not the comic actor, but a premium male skin care product company! This 3-in-1 combination of pre-shave oil, shave cream and skin conditioner is specially formulated for men's shaving needs, which leaves your skin super soft and more refreshing than ever before. The lightweight, penetrating formula not only helps prepare your beard by penetrating and softening whisker growth, but also holds in moisture so your razor glides more easily. Unlike the traditional white foam, the unique transparent formula lets you see where you are shaving. It minimizes the risk of nicks and cuts, which is especially important for guys with goatees, mustaches or sideburns. It's dermatologist tested and is free of alcohol, fragrance and colorant, which typically causes skin irritation. Sounds like a winner right? It is a winner, in fact, it's the 2011 Men's Health Grooming - Best Shave Cream - Award Winner.
OK, so unless you are 12 years old and shaving your peach fuzz in an attempt to grow real facial hair, we assume you know the standard protocol when it comes to trimming your whiskers. Since I was blessed with a combination of oily and sensitive facial skin, I’m going to do my review based on my skin type and what I've found works best. I’d like to inform you that I only shave about once a week, not because I’m lazy or I’m trying to conserve water, but because my skin is not a fan of my four blade shaver too often. My one-on-one time with my razor usually happens at my steam room equipped gym. After a solid workout, I wash my face with warm water followed by a 10 minute steam room session, which really helps to open up my pores and exfoliate. I then wash my face again with warm water, apply a generous amount of Beard Lube, and follow up with another 7-10 minutes of steam room session. The heat activates and softens the lube turning it into a liquid while the eucalyptus, macadamia nut and jojoba oil penetrate below the surface of the skin to soften new whisker growth, cool the skin, and minimize shave irritation. I then apply a bit more Beard Lube to lather up before letting my razor go to work. This combination of steps literally disintegrates the hair off my face once the razor makes contact, resulting in a remarkably easy and close shave, super soft skin, and virtually no razor burn. My approach to shaving is timelier than one would probably like to spend, but it works extremely well for me and my skin type… and I'm sure most others. If you don’t have access to a steam room, I recommend taking a 10 minute hot shower for the purpose of soaking your face to soften your skin and facial hair and open up your pores; apply Beard Lube while your face is still wet and massage it in and leave it on your face for about 5 minutes then you can being shaving. I guarantee both approaches will yield great results for all skin types; I, personally, just prefer the longer steam room one.
Beard Lube comes in three different sizes; a 3 oz tube which is great for traveling, a 6 oz tube, and a 16 oz dispenser. I usually buy the 16 oz as it literally lasts for more than two years based on my shaving schedule. Beard Lube, along with many of the other great products in the Jack Black family of products, can be found in some of the most distinguished upscale retailers and, of course, online. A quick internet search of its reviews will reveal that this product falls nothing short of the claims we've made earlier of it being the best shaving product in the world. We don’t just say things to maintain our user base. We’re not CNN or FOX (depends on who you are, I guess). Now what are you waiting for, go on and get your lube on!
