We’ve done quite a few reviews on modern razors from Harry’s to DSC to Gillette and many more. Some of those shaves resulted in smoothness only second to a baby’s cheek. But most modern blades (with a few exceptions - check out Harry's) are all about function rather than art.
So when the MP team received this “modern version of a timeless classic”, we instantly fell in love. It was instant nostalgia! For some of us, it reminded us of our dads and granddads - we just couldn’t get enough of watching our dads lather up that thick white delicious foam and gliding a single blade safety razor with ease and confidence. What magic! For others, it was the solidly crafted solid metal manly tool. Whatever it was, we all loved the way it looked and felt in our hands. Some of our female colleagues even loved the look of this classic shaving tool… “it’s pretty”! Compliment?! About MicroTouch One – it’s a 3 ½ inch tall chrome plated (hand crafted) solid brass safety razor blade shaver. As soon as you hold it in your hand, you instantly know that it’s the kind that rough manly American cowboys used to shave their stubbles with. This outlaw just happens to be crafted in China and the included blades are made in Vietnam by a Korean company... It’s the American way baby! Twisting the knob at the bottom of the razor handle opens the blade chamber. You can then load a single blade in the chamber, twist close the knob, and it’s ready to be fired away. It actually comes with instructions for the first time safety razor users: 1. Use as little pressure as possible. Let the weight of the razor do the work for you. 2. Hold razor by the tip of the handle. 3. Angle the blade at a 45 degrees angle. 4. Shave with the grain of your beard. [At first, but once more comfortable with this tool, shaving against the grain of your beard will result in a much smoother shave.] I felt a little nervous the first time I shaved with this safety razor. I wasn't sure exactly how much pressure to apply... too little would not result in a smooth shave and too much would surely result in nicks and cuts. I also found myself paying too much unnecessary attention to the angle of the razor. But I got used to the this new tool quite fast. If you normally shave with a razor blade, the learning curve will be quite natural and thus short. For about $20 bucks, you get a razor, 12 blades, and a carrying case. If we’re completely honest, it’s not the best (razor) shaver we’ve tested. As uncultured as the multi-bladed modern day shavers are, form does follow function; you really do get a much closer and comfortable shave from today's razor blades. BUT... to that we say, like art, shaving is totally subjective. And like love, you can’t explain why and we (especially men) go against logic. Holding a classic brass single blade safety razor instantly makes you more MAN! It also brings back the art of shaving [not to be confused with The Art Of Shaving - we haven’t reviewed those guys yet - have your people call our people]. Verdict – a classic safety razor blade is the most impractical shaving experience you’ll completely fall in love with, time after time. YeeHa! by ManPossible
