When our friends at Kiehl’s sent us a sample of the company’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash to try out, we figured it would be a similar type of product and experience.
Man, were we wrong! While both are great grooming products, the two face cleansers couldn’t be more different in terms of style and feel. Think of the Kiehl’s product as the bigger, tougher cousin of the L’Occitane foam, and read on to see what we mean by that…. The Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash comes in a standing pump container. (This brown, semi-opaque plastic container is the only minor criticism of the product we have, by the way. We’re just not fans of brown plastic, and think the Kiehl’s team might consider modernizing the look a bit.) That having been said, the dispenser is simple to use – depress the pump once to get some product into the palm of your hand. Right away, you’ll see the biggest difference between the Kiehl’s cleanser and other competing products. The Calendula cleanser is very thick and viscous; in fact, it’s similar in consistency to shampoo. And the lather you get when you rub your hands together is super thick and frothy. We recommend that you work it directly onto your face rather than using a wash cloth, and then leave it on for a few seconds before rinsing it out, to allow it to work its way into your pores. This is one powerful, deep cleaning face wash. It leaves you feeling refreshed, and your pores will be thoroughly washed out too. After a few days of using it both in the am and in the pm, we switched our approach and put the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash next to our shampoo and conditioner in the shower caddy. We like the power of the product in the morning shower because it lasts all day; but we prefer something lighter at night before bed. The main influence of the product’s scent is – you guessed it – calendula, which turns out to be a fancier way to say marigold. Studies have shown that calendula extracts have anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and detoxification properties. The scent is heavy, floral and long-lasting. And again, the best use of this product is in your morning shower before you leave the Man Pad. You can buy Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face in company stores, department stores, independent boutiques, and of course, online. The Kiehl’s website offers a 7.8 oz. container for $29, which will last you about four months if you’re using it once daily as we recommend. So go get your calendula on! by ManPossible
