And the award goes to...

Picture
Couch potatoes, binge watchers, and of course, ManPossiblers, it’s that time of the year again.  It’s time for the 2014 Emmys!

We know a good number of you loyal ManPossible followers are also content connoisseurs and thus fans of shows such as Mad Men, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Game of Thrones and the like.  Like these shows, we know grooming can also be full of drama, turns, and surprises.  So, given the numerous predictions and the office pool about who would take home the most awards, best actor, etc., we decided to dedicated this Emmys Monday article to the “2014 Outstanding Lead Actor In A [Grooming] Drama Series”.

Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado let us see the nominees:

Picture
Bryan Cranston as Walter White - Breaking Bad

When it comes to TV drama, Bryan Cranston has made quite a name for himself.  No stranger to the Emmys’, Bryan Cranston was nominated 9 times and already won 3 consecutive Emmys’ for Outstanding Lead Actor in Drama Series for Breaking Bad (2008, 2009, 2010).  With a carefully groomed face that resembles everyone’s favorite uncle, Bryan’s “groomed look” is loved and favored by many men and women of all ages.  We’ve also seen Bryan Cranston pull off multiple looks on TV.  Bryan’s grooming behavior can be categorized as casual and versatile.  Whether it’s a face full of stubble or a smooth shaven head, Bryan knows how to make it work.  It doesn’t appear like he overindulges on the grooming products, but rather applies what is needed to give him that natural and defining look.  This is the man that knows how to work a razor blade!

Picture
Kevin Spacey as Francis Underwood - House of Cards

They say, all politicians lie well.  But, not all politicians know how to groom.  Kevin Spacey, is no ordinary man… he certainly doesn’t play one on TV.  For instance, when it comes to receding hairlines, it’s a hard task to balance.  Often, men simply accept defeat and go “buzz”…  Kevin Spacey on the other hand, not only accepted this fact, but has decided to fully embrace it.  This is an issue that no amount of Capitol Hill politics can influence and solve.  However, Kevin’s ability to apply a combination of proper hair care products with a composer like hand has made the impossible, ManPossible [VERY believable].  Our hats off to you, good sir!

Picture
John Hamm as Don Draper - Mad Man

Mmmmm bacon… BUT, this is no ordinary bacon, this is Hamm, John Hamm!  If my dad looked that good in his 40’s [or in the 1960s], maybe we’d have hung out more often.  For John Hamm, the question is not what makes him ManPossible, but rather why is he ManPossible!  Simply put, this man understands grooming.  He knows the precise ingredients that bring out the best in him.  We can only imagine:  a little bit of face cream, a quick trim around the cheek, a tad bit of hair product, and a light spray… Life is good.

Picture
Jeff Daniels as Will McAvoy - The Newsroom

He’s still got it!  Whoever said grooming is for the young, eat your heart out.  You don’t have to go over the top when it comes to grooming to make a statement.  If you haven’t noticed, many, if not all, of the nominees work with what they have.  Jeff Daniels is no different.  Even in his late 50’s, the man makes sure that proper care is taken when it comes to grooming.  A clean shave along with a bit of face cream perhaps, can make all the difference.  To top it all off, one good comb through the hair makes it perfect.

Picture
Woody Harrelson as Martin Hart - True Detective

To buzz or not to buzz, that is the question.  Woody Harrelson answered that question by doing a bit of both.  As mentioned in our write up about Kevin Spacey (above), it’s no walk in the park when it comes to receding hairlines.  There are those who choose to go the route of the brave by doing a complete shave [like Bruce Willis], while others bite the bullet and make do with what they got [like Kevin Spacey].  Woody on the other hand decides to go with a short trim on the top to fully expose his natural beauty.  To further compliment that unique look, the man grows a messy, yet admirably calculated beard.  Well played sir, well played.

Picture
Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle - True Detective

Matthew McConaughey, so we meet again… an actor who’s made his mark across both TV and movie screens.  Matthew also makes a mark in the world of grooming.  A perfect set of teeth along with an overall look of mature, yet sexy… messy, yet primed.  He’s a groomer who tastefully blends a clean shaven face, rigid skin, and semi messy hair.  Gentlemen, this is art.

And the winner is…

We just couldn’t pick one.  Ok, ok, we know some of you will give us shit for this.  BUT, the biggest take away here is the versatility of grooming and ability of one to adopt and shape your grooming habits the way that suits your taste and needs.

I admire how well-groomed John Hamm looks.
