It’s here! Gillette has announced their premiere razor line: The Gillette Decimal! A revolutionary razor designed for the not-so-average man. It has a built-in wifi 802.11ac. Onboard internet browser. Universal TV receiver. 4G data connectivity. Ability to make sandwiches. Oh, and did I mention it has 10 blades for a cleaner and closer shave. The word on the street is that Gillette Decimal has already taken the 2013 – 2050 Men’s Health Grooming Awards…And that is how the rumor starts.
The mind boggling question is: Do more blades really mean a better shave? Throughout the years the act of shaving has evolved along with new trends and technology. What had originally been your grandpa’s simple shaving kit of soap and straight edge razor have now been transformed into a whole cabinet full of pre, during, and post shave products. And do more blades fitted on your razor equate to having more horsepower injected into an engine? Does this compensate for the other “lacking”, shall we say part? I, as many of you know, have been using an electric shaver from the beginning of time. As a matter of fact, it was I who pushed for the invention of batteries so I could minimize my effort in shaving. My electric shaver consists of 3 rotary heads, each equipped with 6 miniature blades under the hood. If my grade school math skills serve me right, that puppy has a total of 18 bite size blades. Now the million dollar question is: “Does the shaver offer a clean shave?” To be completely honest, even with that many blades, it takes multiple repetitions for me to hit all the spots. The shaving process does take quite some effort, something I was hoping to avoid when I chose the electric shaver as my starter pokemon. My dad, who’s been a long time practitioner of both the electric shaver and the standard safety razor, has since started taking more interest in the safety razor. His razor of choice lately has been the Gillette Fusion, which consists of 5 horizontal razor blades and a thin strip of lubricant. When asked if the razor was any better, his reply was that it offers a closer shave when compared to electric shavers. However, it still took due diligence to get the end results. To be honest, the software is more important than the hardware. The software in this case is the man - the individual performing the act of shaving. Everyone is uniquely different, and this also pertains to shaving. Some people like to stick with safety razors with 3 - 4 - 5 blades, while others prefer 10… lol. The purpose of the razor blade is to allow both males and females the ability to better groom ourselves. It is up to the individual’s personal preference as to how many blades are best and what methods one is most comfortable with. I suggest everyone keep an open mind and explore the numerous options that are available in the marketplace. Remember, at the end of the day, we all have the common goal of looking good and feeling great. Our greatest power is the power of choice. by ManPossible
