Where did it all go? How did it all happen so quickly? It seems as if it was just yesterday when MP posted our 2014 Christmas article: “12 Days of ManPossible Christmas!” With a blink-of-an-eye, 2014 has passed us by… Instead of writing an article to look back at all that we’ve accomplished in the past year, we decided to jump on the “Resolution” bandwagon.
That right folks! A part of transitioning from one year to another is to set goals! You’ve all probably heard or set the following resolutions for yourselves: lose weight, find a significant other, new job, quit smoking, and quit drinking. BUT, how many of us actually followed through on those goals? Instead of grilling you, we are going to offer you advice on how to follow through on your goals: 1) Write it down Look, MP understands that we now live in the twenty-first century and almost everything has become digitized. BUT, that does not mean digital is the best way to go about for all things. When 56 historically respected intellectuals gathered to sign the Declaration of Independence, they did so because they knew the significance of the document and the resolution it would set forth for centuries to come. The concept is the same when it comes to setting New Year Resolutions; the best way is to write it down! When you physically write down things, there is a higher chance that you will remember it and follow through on it. So go get yourself an old school pen and paper (or make a small investment in a moleskine notebook) and go about writing down your New Year Resolutions! If you want to get fancy with it, get a frame or laminate the darn thing! If you don’t want to completely forego the digital era, type yourself an “electronic” copy to keep on your phone, tablet or laptop. 2) Make Copies So, you have your resolutions written down and framed up against the wall. We are half way there right? Wrong! Writing down your goals doesn’t even come close to accomplishing them. What you now need to do is to mass-produce your resolution list. You can either, 1) hand write the list 100 times or, 2) go to a copier and make 1000+ copies. Once you have the copies, take them and put them at every single point of intersection you touch a daily basis. This means you put a copy on your desk, bedroom walls, next to your pillow, closet, restroom (in and outside the shower), kitchen, office, gym locker, car, wallet, etc. The idea is to train yourself to physically see your goals and mentally transform it from something intangible to tangible. If you really want to go above and beyond, go and print it on couple T-Shirts and wear them around. 3) Be Accountable “With great power, comes great responsibility”. What you need to do now is to be accountable for your actions. In this case, be sure to give copies of your resolution to those you trust. You can also email that electronic copy to the same individuals. Set a timeline for yourself. Be sure to have your selected trustees check in on you on a daily or weekly basis. This will work even better if your trustees also have resolutions of his or her own. Go out, talk to people, let them know of your goals. Doing it solo is great, but working together as a team can be a much greater motivation. Be sure to follow through and never EVER give up. Heck, if it helps, send your resolution list to us at MP and we will check in on your ass to make sure you are on top of your goal (if you are a lucky and perhaps boldly chosen one, we’ll even post it on the site). 4) Do It Now that we showed you the road, the only thing that’s left is to simply “GO and DO IT!” We at ManPossible want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and when you are writing down your resolutions, be sure to include grooming! by ManPossible Photo used under Creative Commons from wikimedia
