Even Thicker Than Blood…

I’m not sure what your family is like, but just the other day my brother and I were having an intense conversation regarding shaving creams.  As it turned out, he was allergic to the shaving cream he had been using.  After each shave his chin would breakout with a rash, or worse his lips would swell up.  Being the awesome older brother I am, my immediate reaction was to point at him and laugh.  Honestly, who keeps using the same shaving cream if it’s causing horrid side-effects?!  Once I made my point clear, I put on my ManPossible detective cap and told him I would find the perfect shaving cream for him.

Fast-forward 2 months, my editor sent me a tube of Ursa Major Stellar Shaving Cream for a review.  Rather than giving everyone the download on the packaging and how to, I am going to dive right into the experience.

First things first, this bad boy is thick!  No!  I am not talking about the girth of the packaging.  By thick, I am referring to the consistency of the shaving cream formula.  One of the first things I noticed when squeezing the tube was the rich and creamy density of the substance.  Just that alone was enough to convince me that this was a good product.  For as far as I can remember, a good number of shaving creams I’ve used were definitely more on the “wet” side.  If we were to use some basic logic, the main purpose of shaving cream is to act as a lathering agent both to, 1) prevent direct contact between skin and razor, 2) deliver a moisturizing and lubricating affect to shell the skin.  This product definitely lived up to both expectations.

A nickel sized squeeze of this stuff is enough to cover the entire surface area around my mouth and lower chin.  Due to the creamy consistency of this product, you can shave across the same area at least 2-3 times without reapplying as in other shaving cream / gels.  As I ran the blade against my skin, all I was able to feel was a smooth gliding sensation.  To further demonstrate how good of a moisturizing agent this stuff is, even after rinsing my hands I still felt the remnants of the smooth texture on my fingers.

Aside from admiring this product for it’s consistency, both the smell and ingredients are also worth mentioning.  The aromatic fragrance emitting from the shaving cream triggered my childhood memory of gingerbread cookies and afternoon tea.  The scent isn’t overpowering and only lingers briefly after the shave.  Did we mention that this stuff is 98.6% natural and 51% organic?  We are talking about ingredients that were grown by REAL people and properly attended to and cared for with LOVE!  Some of the key ingredients include: Aloe, sunflower seed, willow bark extract, oat protein, shea, birch sap, sea fennel (almost sounds like ingredients for making a salad).  What this ultimately means is that you can rest assure that this particular shaving cream isn’t infested with synthetic chemicals.  Now the only thing you’ll need to worry about is allergic reactions caused by natural ingredients…
