The temperature is hot and the humidity in the atmosphere makes it even more unbearable. To make matters worst, one’s vision is severely impaired by the thick dust in the air. Squinting his eyes straight at the rapidly approaching sandstorm, he sees nothing. Instead, his ears pick up the faint, yet distinct noise of an engine. Moments later, a white object emerges from the murky darkness, creating a raging fume of dust as it zooms by. Minutes later, the earth underneath trembles as a deafening roar reveals an onslaught of furious vehicles in pursuit of the dust trail left by the white object.
Up ahead, inside the 2015 Nissan Juke, our hero with both hands on the steering wheel looks straight ahead. While the surrounding wasteland is engulfed in the scorching heat, inside the driving cabin, the automatic climate control is set to a breezy temperature of 65 degrees. Our hero reaches for the Integrated Control (I-CON) System and selects the “D-MODE” (Drive-MODE) button up top. Before one can even blink, the climate control image that was on the I-CON system changes… What is now indicated are specific driving keywords illuminating on either sides of the I-CON screen. To the left column, there are various driving modes: 1) NORMAL, 2) SPORTS, and 3) ECO. To the far right of the I-CON screen are: 1) SETUP, 2) DRIVE INFO, and 3) ECO INFO. Currently our hero has the D-MODE selected at “NORMAL” with the following messages: · ENGINE: NORMAL · CVT: NORMAL · STRG: NORMAL · CLIMATE: NORMAL In this particular mode, the I-CON screen exhibits the voltage meter along with a half-arc image of the torque gauge. While in the NORMAL MODE, a press on the gas pedal launches the Juke’s RPM somewhere between 2.5K – 3K. This specific model also provides a decent responsive feedback between the engines output and the driver’s gas input. Further squeezing the gas pedal, hitting somewhere between 3K – 4K RPM, results in a boost [but, there is a slight (very slight) turbo lag]. BOOM! The ground on both sides of the Juke erupts, sending dirt and rubble straight into the sky. It seems the vicious pack and their gas guzzling armored vehicles have caught up to the Juke and are now engaging in a fire fight. Fear not, our hero manages to avoid all the oncoming shots with the help of the car’s electric power steering. Given that this particular 2015 Juke SV comes equipped with a one-touch tilt/slide moonroof, our hero gives the fair maiden a quick smile as he engages the one-touch button to slide open the moonroof back. With that, our beautiful lady reaches over to the back seat and brings forth a rocket launcher [not included with the Juke]. Armed with this little puppy, the lady brings her upper body out the vehicle and turns to face the oncoming madness. Locking onto a rapidly approaching 4x4, the maiden pulls the trigger as the rocket shoots forth, igniting the vehicle on contact. Tossing the empty launcher off the road, the lady ducks back into the cabin and scrambles to the rear seat and reemerges with a machine gun [some fair lady]. With the back of the gun tightly against her shoulder, she proceeds to open rapid fire to everything within her sight. Upon emptying the clip, the fair maiden submerges back into the cabin as our hero taps the one-touch button to close the moonroof. Without any weapons remaining and still in pursuit by a huge tanker and a gang of armored vehicles, our hero makes a sharp left turn. Up ahead, roughly 5 miles away, is the entrance to a narrow valley. The path seems to be carved out from centuries of rainfall and natural occurrences. The valley is surrounded by sharp corners and large boulders. With a smirk on his face, our hero reaches over once more towards the I-CON System and selects “SPORTS” and pops the shifter to the left to engage in the “manual” mode. With it we see a quick flash across the screen: · ENGINE: SPORTS · CVT: SPORTS · STRG: SPORTS · CLIMATE: SPORTS Instantly the Juke roars to life! The I-CON System screen now shows a circular boost gauge. Given that the Juke SV has a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), there is no need to hassle with gears. What you get when the vehicle is in SPORTS MODE is a much more responsive engine and firmer steering feedback. While in manual mode, the driver has full control over how high the engine’s RPM resides and thus controlling the vehicles rev and turbo boost output. Our hero puts his right foot forward, cycling through each “gear” right before the RPM needle reaches the redline. With a push of a button, our hero activates the Bluetooth hands-free system on the steering wheel and voice commands the vehicle to dial a particular contact. Several rings later our hero connects with his comrade and delivers the instructions. As the Juke gets closer to the entrance of the valley, we see various shadows of human figures appearing at the top. Right as the Juke zips pass the entrance, we hear a thunderous roar followed by the earth’s violent tremble. Through the rearview mirror our hero sees huge boulders erupting from the mountains all falling rapidly and striking the oncoming pursuers and sealing the entrance. After what seems like 10 minutes of chaotic explosions, screaming and shaking, everything goes silent… At the other end of the valley, we see the 2015 Nissan Juke SV surfacing from the clouds of dust, driving off to the setting sun. Another successful test drive complete… it too can be your test drive at your local Nissan showroom. by ManPossible Photo used under cc from Jesse Wagstaff
