A Clean Getaway Love Story

Scene:  It’s around 10am Saturday morning and the scene takes place at a small corner coffee house.  The coffee house is constructed of red bricks, those typically found while walking down a back street of Venice Beach.  Through the large rectangular window of the coffee shop, we see a beautiful female in her mid-twenties reading.  Down the street we see a young gentleman also in his mid-twenties, dressed in a causal black button-up with a white tie loosely hanging around this neck.  As he walks pass the coffee house, we see him do a double take at the girl next to the window.  After a brief self-contemplation, he pushes open the door and walks in for some coffee…

Gentleman:  Excuse me miss, is this seat taken?

(Hearing the voice, the young lady moves her focused eyes away from the reading material and looks up to see a young man with a coffee mug in his hands and a gentle smile across his face.)

Young Lady:  Mmm, no.

(Taking the seat opposite the lady, the gentleman proceeds to speak…)

Gentleman:  If you don’t mind me asking, what is it that you’re reading?  (Pointing to the stack of paper the female has in her hand).

Young Lady:  Oh this?  I’m reading the script for an upcoming play that I will be performing in.

Gentleman:  That’s awesome!  Does that mean you’re an actress?  I’ve never met an actress before.  [side bar – really?  In LA / Venice?]  EVER!  What play are you prepping for?

(Hearing the excitement in the man’s voice and seeing the child-like curiosity on his face, the young lady blushes and replies…) 

Young Lady:  Mmm…  I guess you can say I’m an actress.  My area of interest is in playwright acting.  When I’m on stage and acting, it feels as if I am in the mind and body of that character; it feels as if I am living and telling the story.  It must sound silly to you…  I am currently studying for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Gentleman:  No!  No!  No!  That is not silly at all.  In a way I can definitely relate to what you mean.  Every one of us has our own story and is constantly writing our tale and sharing it with others.  I am super excited for you and for your upcoming play.  Let me guess, you are going to play the role of Juliet?

Young Lady:  Thank you very much for the kind words.  How did you know I am playing the role of Juliet?

(Starring right into the young lady’s eyes, the gentleman speaks.)

Gentleman:  For someone as pretty as you, it’d be the obvious role!

(Looking right back and blushing the young lady replies.)

Young Lady:  Thank you very much.  Your kind words really made my day.

Gentleman:  You’re quite welcome.  I am simply stating the truth.

Young Lady:  Oh, by the way, would you like to come to watch the play next week?  I am allowed to invite friends and guests, and it would be nice if you came.  That’s if you’d like to…

Gentleman:  Really?  You’re inviting me to your play?  It’s awesome!  I’d be honored to attend.  You know what?  We can go get dinner afterwards to celebrate…

And so on this particular Saturday morning two strangers met at a cozy coffee house.  Their meeting was marked by fate and their destiny will forever be changed.

That’s not all folks!  What the narrator interprets as fate is actually something ManPossible calls confidence.
