Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque From Kiehl's.

We’ll begin our review of the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque from Kiehl’s with a warning.  Watch out for the eyes – gooey clay in the eyes is not a good thing!  Those of you secure enough in your man-sculinity may want to ask your other half for help with the application and removal of the masque.

Step 1: Wash your face with cool water and pat it dry, allowing it to remain a little damp.

The masque is sort of like a small jar of Fluff with sand mixed into it.  For those of you who lack exposure to the wonderful world of Fluff – and we weep for your wretchedly deprived childhood – seek enlightenment at Marshmallow Fluff.

Step 2: Dip into the container with 2-3 digits.  Slather a generous coating onto your face.

Step 3: Leave the masque on for 10-15 minutes.

What happens while you’re waiting?  Well, the masque, which includes white clay from the Amazon (that’s right, some exotic stuff here), firms up a little without drying completely.  Try to stay still, and avoid extreme facial contortions, which will spread out the product and prevent it from working its way into your pores properly.  Do not try to talk on the phone or eat anything, because this effort will almost certainly result in clay in an orifice where it ought not to go.  So just chill out for a while.  Get zen.  Visualize yourself sitting in the middle of a meadow full of lavender, drinking a cup of lavender chamomile tea (pinky out, please).  Channel Chopra.  Let nothing harsh your mellow as you sit, walk or fly around looking like a bust of Casper the Friendly Ghost.

For the next 10-15 minutes, your face will tingle or even sting a bit.  This sensation is a sign that the astringent cleaning agents are successfully working their way into your epidermis.  Despite the slight stinging, it’s a fresh, cooling sensation to wear the masque.

Step 4: Use a damp towel to wipe the masque off your face.  Note – it takes some time and effort to get the clay completely off, so instead of just patting your face dry, you may want to take a quick shower to rinse the rest of the product out.

Step 5: Enjoy the refreshed, clean feeling you should experience for the next few hours….

We felt that this product worked well.  You need to reserve at least a half hour to complete the preparation, application and removal of the masque.  But there are definitely worse ways to spend a half hour, and your skin should remain clean and rejuvenated for a few days.  The Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque retails for $23, and one container should be good for 40+ applications.
