Having read many articles written from a male’s point-of-view, I thought it would be only proper for a lady to give you our two cents on what we think about guys’ grooming. Below are my (females) top 5 male grooming pet peeves.
#5 – Hair Obsession
I’m not sure if this is a common behavior amongst you males, but my boyfriend is super attentive (obsessed) when it comes to his full head of hair. He spends more time prepping his hair than I do putting on makeup. From washing to drying to styling his hair, he has a process to make sure everything is in sync. Once you get passed the initial and natural conclusion that this guy has serious self-obsession issues (believe me, it definitely took some getting used to), I personally have started appreciating what he does with his hair. When we go out on dates, there always seems to be someone who compliments him on his stylish new do. It makes me feel great to be next to someone who is confident about his personal fashion sense. But the “process” is a big pain in the butt!
#4 - Rough Skin
As weird as this might seem to many reading this, we females definitely appreciate a sense of soft touch. Sure a “Manly Man” is defined by the roughness of his skin and the size of his pecs (did I write that out loud). However, a real man knows how to make a lady feel comfortable with his soft touch. There are plenty of male skin care products specifically designed to add a touch off softness while maintaining male masculinity. For some reason when I tell my boyfriend about the idea of Vaseline, he seems to always smirk about it. It must be some sick inside joke between him and his friends. Truth be told, I am an advocate of baby lotion. Not only does it soothe your skin, but also rejuvenates it from a long day of activities. Give it a try after showering, you won’t regret it.
#3 - Smile
Just like how you men like to stare at a woman and rate her from head to toe, we girls also have our own way of judging a guy. For starters, a guy with a nice smile is sure to win some brownie points. Yes, not everyone is born with a perfect set of teeth and when you factor in smoking and drinking coffee... But fear not prime apes who think with their penises, a good smile can simply mean a set of white teeth and that can be achieved by science. There are toothpaste products and tooth whitening agents whose sole purpose is to…. Whiten your teeth! I’d like to take this opportunity to take full credit for having my boyfriend use Crest’s 3D White Stripe (an article previously featured on ManPossible).
#2 – BO, yuck!
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out Calvin Klein Eternity Aqua Cologne. One of the best feelings about hugging my boyfriend is the subtle and comforting scent of the CK cologne. On that note, let’s be clear about using fragrances. We females love it when a man smells great, but that doesn’t mean all fragrances are created equal. I’m sure this is a matter of personal preference, but I’ve heard stories and smelled some pretty horrible scents along the way. With so many different brands and celebrities advertising the next best scent, it’s common for people to misinterpret and be misguided. Here are some rules to follow when looking for the ideal fragrance: 1) body sprays do not equal cologne, 2) always check with your girlfriend, family, friends and those closely around you before applying, and 3) a little spray can go a long way; less is more, don’t over indulge (cologne should be a pleasant whisper, not a downpour!).
#1 - Facial Hair
Finally, we’ve arrived at the number one male grooming pet peeve for females. Facial hair, one of the most iconic physical traits that differentiates male from female and alpha male from average male. I personally have a love-hate relationship when it comes to men’s facial hair. My boyfriend being a lazy busy man, tends to shave on average, once a week. For me the attraction comes in different stages. When he first shaves, I love the smooth and clean look and feel; this is especially true when it comes time to cuddle. After 2 to 3 days, he will have little stubbles. I like that stage the best, the stubbles makes my man look extra mature and sexy. Once you get passed the stubble stage and see the facial hair really take length, it just becomes annoying and unattractive. When the beard and mustache go past that stage everything goes downhill. No more quality time! Learn from this story boys, be sure to shave when necessary and be sensitive to you girlfriends’ needs.
To be fair, I love my boyfriend for who he is and definitely see the results of ManPossible’s influence. This is such a helpful community of info for all guys looking to transform into a MAN. If you like my post, be sure to let the guys know, that way I can come back to write more... XOXO <3!
