“Hello yogis! Thank you all for coming to the Saturday, 3:30PM yoga class at One Down Dog.” “… A friend of mine made a resolution this year. ‘Think Less and Do More’. I believe this is a wonderful resolution that can also be applied to yoga…” “HEY! That’s my New Year’s resolution. I better make sure to tell her that phrase is trademarked after class.” Those were the exact thoughts racing across my mind as I situate myself at the far end of the room. |
(An hour later…)
So there I was, with my back against the yoga mat starring into the white ceiling. What a workout that was! I was drenched in sweat, out of breath and hurting allover. Nevertheless, I was smiling! I felt refreshed. I felt renewed! A part of me that was anxious, scared and confused completely disappeared. What’s left is an empty vessel ready to take on new challenges.
In the code of honor known to ManPossible readers, I’m going to keep it real with the fellas. 1) There were A LOT of females. 2) There were A LOT of asses – the good ones. If you’re not familiar with any of those, Google it. Nevertheless, I was too busy (seriously) trying to memorize the stances and ensure I stay alive throughout the entire session. Never fear, with my new found confidence I can always go back and report new findings to those of you who live with your mothers.
You may be thinking, “honestly, what is up with ManPossible? Last time I checked the site is for grooming and men’s lifestyle. Now they are posting female hair dyes and yoga lessons?!?!” Before you judge, I want to stress the importance of this post.
This is all about Life Style - The biggest takeaway for me from this experience is to have an open mind and to always challenge yourself to new things. I sure as hell didn’t think I would be doing yoga a month ago, let alone a year ago. Hallie once told me I should try yoga as a way to find peace and collect my thoughts. While I spent the last 5 minutes lying on the mat, a part of me was trying really hard to gather all my thoughts and put them into a list. However, there was another part of me that was taking the list and erasing it out of my head. When I recited the experience to her, I was told since this is my first time it’ll take some getting used to as my mind floats between thoughts and actions… you didn’t expect one yoga lesson to solve world issues?
As for One Down Dog, I loved the friendly staffs (human and dog) and the tranquil ambiance. The yoga room is spacious, full of great energy, and positive attitudes. In addition to the wood tiles, blue and white paint, there is a colorful graffiti that spells out “Get Down” at the front and center of the wall. Just by being in that space, I felt anything was possible. Did I mention that our “Warrior”, “Dog”, “Chair” stances were accompanied by the angelic voices of Brittany and Taylor (Don’t ask me how I know…)!
I want to end this post by thanking Hallie for the wonderful class and the awesome resolution shout out! Also a shout out to One Down Dog for the first time free yoga mat rental and awesome hospitality! On behave of MP, we’d like to encourage everybody to try at least one new thing a month and apply the Think Less Do More mentality to grooming and life!
Namaste!
