Ladies and gentlemen, today we are going to talk about change. No, we are not talking about nickels and dimes. We are talking about the act of stepping outside your comfort zone and taking an uncomfortable action not usually done. Yours truly recently decided to forego the comfort of a secure job [McDonald’s] to pursue an opportunity in which I am not certain of the outcome [Taco Bell]. The decision was a tough one, but it was certainly one that had to be made. I am not sure about everyone else, but the thought of constant repetition and the lack of challenge drives me crazy! So, I’m going to attempt to make the case as to why we should at least experience something new once in a while. |
Location
When it comes to grooming, you’ve been going to the same barbershop and shopping at the same drug store all your life. As admirable as your diehard efforts are, we suggest you spice things up a bit. Instead of going to the barbershop down the street, just because it’s close, try walking a bit further or drive outside of your city limits. Heck, take a public transportation [for all our LA MP-ers, this would be pushing it] if you really want to be adventurous. You’d be surprised at how many new and unique shops you’ve been missing out this whole time. Instead of hitting up the drug store for convenience, try going to the mall or grooming specialty shops where dedicated grooming experts and guide you along [of course, ManPossible will continue to be a great resource for you]. Remember, the location itself is ‘fixed”; you, however, have the ability to move in and out to experience those new “things”.
Product
The product in this case can refer to that regular barber you see every time or that specific grooming item you purchase at the store. As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. To that we say, “When it DOES break, you are screwed”. It’s assuring to know that we have a designated barber that gives the “usual” treatment or the specific shaving cream that works wonders. BUT, what happens if your barber goes on vacation or if the brand you solely rely on vanishes from the face of the planet? It would be nice if we had a few more options. It’s always good to have our “go-to” things in life for comfort. However, it’s usually a new or different experience that leaves the biggest imprint in our lives!
Experience
Speaking of imprints, let’s chat experience for a minute. The final stage of change usually ends with some type of experience, sometimes good and sometimes bad. Going back to the barbershop and grooming product examples, it could be that the new barbershop outside of your city offers you a memorable haircut experience that you end up deciding to make this your new “go-to” place. Or, it could be that the barber doesn’t get you and gives you an unsatisfying hairdo. In which case, you will decide to never go back and will need to invest in a hat to cover your ugly head for 3 weeks until your hair grows back. By visiting a new store at the mall, you might find one off products that you don’t normally see in the aisle of your local drug store. It might even lead to a chat with a grooming specialist to get a better understanding about yourself and how your body reacts to different products. Regardless of the outcome, by trying something new, you open up your life to receiving endless possibilities. All of which you can take with you and share with others.
If you think about it, or simply don’t think and just do… some times you just gotta live a little Más! Usually it isn’t until we put ourselves in unfamiliar and uncomfortable situations, do we truly get to understand ourselves and make the most out of the experiences… To those who’ve been motivated by this article, we say to you, be adventurous, be brave and be Más!
