Grooming is similar to having a conversation between two individuals. It’s a practice in which one person shares his experience and knowledge with another. This is why I believe grooming should start right at birth. Below is a rough grooming life stage breakdown.
0 – 10
This is what I would call the observation stage. In this stage we should expose and introduce kids to various grooming habits and environments. We teach them about the basic hygiene of washing and the art of self pampering. The more they see, the more they will be aware of grooming.
11 – 21
Puberty strikes! During this stage we begin to see self-awareness along with a mix of confusion and questions (I’m still talking about gromming). This stage is where “the talk” would come in handy. We should use the time to explain about the physical changes as well as the proper care one needs to exhibit. This is the perfect stage to introduce the various “men tools” as well as the “how to” in grooming. You can also view this stage as the passing of knowledge from one man to another.
22 – 35
Ok young grasshopper, so you’ve mastered the trades of your sensei. This is where you take all that you’ve learned and go on a journey of your own. Perhaps experiment with new products (we are still talking about grooming J. During this stage we are adventurous; we try new products and experience different techniques. This is where we shave our own path.
36 – 55
You’ve travelled far and wide and along the way perfected a style of your own. You’ve mastered the art of grooming and have gotten to know the ins and outs of your body. Further more, you’ve managed to start a family. Instead of focusing your time on creating new techniques, you’ve decided to settle down and pass your learning to the next generation.
56 & Up
You sir, are what we call the godfather of grooming. The Yoda, if you well. You’ve come a full circle on this journey of grooming and have been recognized by your kin and colleagues. You are now the definition of “grooming”. From here you will oversee and give wise advice to all those who seek it.
Similar to the phrase “we are always learning”, we are always grooming. It doesn’t matter where you are on this grooming-cycle of life, you’ll always have room to perfect your grooming experiences.
Grooming is a lifestyle!.
