Behind Closed Doors

Greetings and salutations good sirs!  For those living in SoCal, we’d like to extend a virtual high-five as we welcome the warm embrace of summer.  So… a couple of us were hanging out and throwing ideas around for the next article when it occurred to us that we often talk about the good behaviors and outcomes of proper grooming.  However, what about the little things that we all do behind closed doors?  What are some common bad habits related to grooming?
It’s quite common to see people bite their nails or twist their hair.  On the extreme end, you have people who skip daily showers or tooth brushing… ewww.  I however, have a weird grooming habit of my own that I’d like to share.

This all started a little over a year ago.  If you didn’t already know, I am very serious when it comes to my hair.  Some times I would spend hours styling and getting it to look exactly the way I want it.  For that same exact reason, I often leave the actual haircutting to professionals.  It took me quite some time to find the right barbershop and become a regular.  Along this “barber hunt” journey, I’ve come across a couple barbers who often run the blade beyond the sideburns and onto other areas of the face.  I’d like to confess that I am not a hairy person by nature, but as my barber began to buzz around areas of my chin and face, I started noticing more visible hairs around those areas.

Here is where the dilemma starts, I am faced with the decision to continue shaving the same areas (on my own) so to keep the hair at bay or leave it untouched and eventually my barber would buzz it off during my haircut visit.  So what do I do?  The solution came unexpectedly.  I find myself unintentionally feeling my face to find standalone hairs and go about plucking them.  Yes!  You heard correctly!  I have a weird habit of using my fingers to pluck out facial hairs.  If you look past the initial weird factor, this action is actually quite therapeutic.  When I’m bored or when I notice this “one” odd hair sticking out, I’d go about working in front of a mirror until I pluck the hair from its roots.  Something about doing this gives me a sense of accomplishment when I finally manage to get the job done.  I’ve recently adopted this habit as a method of distracting myself from the daily craziness.   Something about it brings me a feeling of peace and collectiveness [literally!].

Anyways…  that is me sharing my weird grooming habits.  I’ll let all of you be the judge as to whether or not this is a bad habit.  In the meantime drop us a line and send us your weird and whacky grooming habits so we can all bond.
