Want to test your manhood?  Splash a generous amount of aftershave onto your palm, then run your palm across your newly carved raw face… leave us a comment and let us know how that felt.

Aftershave naturally follows a proper shave.  Ahhhh...  Like desserts that come at the end of every meal, aftershave is the product men use after they finish shaving (hence the name “after-shave”).  Although they differ by brand and make, most aftershaves contain an antiseptic agent such as denatured alcohol, stearate citrate or witch hazel to prevent infection from the nicks and cuts, as well as to act as an astringent to clean the skin and reduce pore size.  Want to test your manhood?  Splash a generous amount of aftershave onto your palm, then run your palm across your newly carved raw face… leave us a comment and let us know how that felt.  Have you seen Home Alone, the movie?

Today let’s put Polo By Ralph Lauren (the aftershave) through the ringer.  Right off the bat we’re in a state of confusion.  Like it’s name suggests, this ambiguous bottle comes in a clear, jade green 4oz glass bottle, with no description on the bottle, but the iconic polo player and his pony.  It’s only when you do a 360 loop de loop around the bottle and it’s original box, will you find the inscription at the bottom which tells you this is aftershave and not a bottle of cologne.  Twisting open the gold coated cap and freeing the aroma doesn’t help differentiate this product any better.  The aromatic scent of lime zest, basil and a whole lot of manliness (the powerful and masculine base note blend of leather, tobacco, cedar, balsam, patchouli and oakmoss), resembles its “brother from another mother”; Polo Eau de Toilette Spray.  In other words, this is the Polo cologne but with the added ingredients to serve the purpose of the aftershave!

Just to be fair, at first we thought this product was silly and uninnovative.  However, once we put this bad boy to use, the lightbulb went off.  How did we not see it?!?!  This is the best of both worlds!  Perhaps a hybrid!  Having to run the blade over the same spot multiple times tends to leave my sensitive skin with little red dots of razor burn.  After dabbing the solution on my palm and applying it on my skin, the first two sensations that trigger are smell and touch.  The initial aroma is pungent with the scent of tobacco and cedar.  As my palm comes into contact with my facial skin, the alcohol prompts a noticeable sting.  Depending on the number of cuts, the pain can last between couple seconds to minutes!  Ahhhh!  The best part about this aftershave came seconds after applying.  This solution was very quick to absorb by the skin; once the stinging sensation subsided, my skin felt soft and smooth.  The heavy scent of tobacco also retracted, leaving behind a light and aromatic fragrance of fresh zest and all the other good stuff that you get from a cologne.

Once you get past the ambiguous stage of cologne or aftershave, Polo By Ralph Lauren (aftershave) definitely lives up to its name.  If your name is Ralph, Ralpha, Raphael, or always wanted to be one, go put on some Polo for the game of your life!
